Music and Guitar
I love the guitar. My first guitar was a tennis racket! Well, I had to have something to accompany The Beatles with. For my 13th birthday, my father took pity on me and bought me my first real guitar – an Airline acoustic. And even though I have played many wonderful guitars in my life, I was never more thrilled than the day I got that first guitar.
Through the years, I have played many styles of music in many different scenes. From all-girl rock bands, pop bands, and disco bands of my youth, to the classical, folk and popular music I teach today, I have had a broad range of musical experience.
A few years ago, I taught a music course for the Institute for Learning in Retirement at Frederick Community College. The course was called “Music is Good for Your Brain”. In the class, we explored elementary music theory and song structure, and I incorporate these elements into my private lessons.
Music is my focus and teaching is one way I share music. I want to teach you what YOU want to learn. At the same time, it is important for you to realize that in order to play what you want to play, there are also techniques you will need to learn in order to do that. I try to make teaching guitar as much fun for you as it is for me. That is one of the reasons I really enjoy working with beginners, both adults and children.
So if you want to learn to play classical or acoustic guitar, and understand the music theory that makes it all work, I welcome you to contact me. Music doesn’t have to be scary, and it should be fun!
